March 5, 2008 Blackpool help for Third World orphan 

STAFF at a national service in Blackpool have been giving up their time to help a young boy from the Third World. Orphan Mark Lombe, who lost both his parents to Aids, came over from Zambia to visit the Artificial Eye Service and have his false eye adjusted.He had already had the prosthetic fitted at the Bispham-based service, in 2005, after being born with a condition known as microphthalmia.....

November 7, 2007 ABC Extreme Makeover Home Edition picks Louisville Family  "ABC's Extreme Makeover Home Edition has chosen a Louisville family to receive a significant home renovation. The family of Patrick Henry Hughes, a blind trumpet player in University of Louisville's Marching and Pep Band received the news this morning when the show's crew arrived at their front door...Patrick Henry was born without eyes and without the ability to fully straighten his arms and legs, leaving him unable to walk."

August 12, 2007:  Family wins payout for son's eye defects    "A family from Newburgh who were closely involved in a lengthy legal battle against the giant DuPont Corporation are to share in a $9 million settlement made as a result of eye defects allegedly causedby the fungicide Benlate.
The Attenborough family became involved in years of court action after son Jonathan, who is now 17, was born with  micropthalmia...."

August 12, 2007:  Victims of fungicide receive payout      "Ten Scottish families are to share in a multi-million-pound payout from an American chemical company blamed for causing serious eye defects in their children before they were born. The Delaware-based giant DuPont Corporation has agreed a $9m (£4.5m) settlement, according to documents lodged with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), following a nine-year legal battle......"

June 15, 2007:  Poway boy to compete in Braille Challenge   "Although he enjoys being part of Meadowbrook Middle School's wrestling team, Harrison, 12, has more of a mental challenge lined up next weekend: He will be competing in the National Braille Challenge, an academic pentathlon in Los Angeles sponsored by the Braille Institute of America.....Harrison began learning Braille in preschool. He was born with a condition called microphthalmia..."

May 4, 2007:  Dupont Settles Birth Defects Lawsuits   "The DuPont Co. has agreed to pay $9 million to settle two lawsuits alleging that the fungicide Benlate caused birth defects in children....born without eyes or with abnormally small eyes....."

April 4, 2007: State Program Seeks Funds to Educate Blind Children "Nine-year-old C-Jay Martin bends over the keyboard as he prepares to copy his spelling words from a sheet of yellow paper to a computer file. He reads the word at the top of the list, first silently and then aloud - a-b-l-e, able - then types it on the keyboard.....C-Jay can’t see the marks on the paper. Totally blind since birth — he was born without eyes — ...."
